Hyun Jung-hwa

Hyun Jung -hwa (born 6 October 1969 in Busan, South Korea) is a former table tennis champion, four -time world champion and Olympic champion.

Between 1987 and 1993, Hyun Jung -hwa took part in all four World Cups. In 1987, she won the doubles title together with Yang Young -ja. In 1989 she won the Mixed with Yoo Nam -kyu. Two years later she was in the winning team's joint North and South Korea. This event served as the basis for the 2012 film shot Koria (As one) in which Hyun Jung -hwa is portrayed by actress Ha Ji-won and even has a brief appearance as coach of the French national team. She became world champion in the individual 1993, Mixed, she won at the side of Yoo Nam -kyu silver.

At the Olympics she won in 1988 in a double with Yang Young -ja. In 1992 she won in singles and doubles with Hong Cha -ok bronze.

In 1994 she retired from competitive sports. In 2010 she was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame. Today ( 2012) she has been director of the Korean Table Tennis Federation.
