Hyundai Galloper

The Hyundai Galloper, which was produced in the models Exceed, innovation and Van / Wagon by Hyundai Precision & Industry Company Limited in the years 1991 to 2003, was a licensed production of the Mitsubishi Pajero in the last stage of development L040. The Hyundai Precision & Industry Company Limited is part of the Hyundai Group, but has nothing to do with the car manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company. For this reason, never was the Hyundai emblem to find the vehicle. In the countries in which the model was not sold on the respective Hyundai General Importer, had Galloper out as a separate brand. The vehicles had been there therefore sold through individual agents. In Germany and Spain, the model was marketed including as Mitsubishi Galloper. In Iceland, the models were sold with automatic transmission as Galloper TCI.

Model history

The Galloper was introduced in 1991 by HDPIC and manufactured in Korea by license of the first Mitsubishi Mitsubishi Pajero. In Germany, the Galloper 1998 has been introduced. The sale took place in Germany on the Mitsubishi dealers who also service and maintanence. In Austria, the Sentra has been sold through the Hyundai dealer network (including repair / maintenance, warranty work, spare parts). In 2001, production was discontinued.

Technology

Rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive in the state switchable (automatic freewheeling hubs)

Construction: Conductor frame with screwed steel body

That the Galloper only one was in the details Modified Pajero I was especially apparent at the time already partially outmoded technology. The all-wheel drive system was broadly what is usual in 2013 actually off-road vehicles, but was less comfortable to use than that of limited off-road SUV. The lifetime of the gearbox was difficult to calculate: On some vehicles, it held more than 250,000 km, in other not even 40,000 km. Problems very often prepared, the turbodiesel engine, the glow plug system in combination with the immobilizer led to many a failure to boot. The rust -prone bodywork was the original problem, the Galloper well.

Series

The Hyundai Galloper was prepared in two different series.

There was a series that was equipped with leaf -sprung rear axle. This design was used especially in the early days of model production in the models that were equipped with a four cylinder engine. The second series was equipped with a very robust coil suspension and came primarily in the models with six-cylinder engines and in diesel engines with turbocharging and charge air cooler to use.

Body

The Hyundai Galloper was produced both as a three-door, as well as a five-door hatchback. The three-door is 4.09 meters long, 1.78 meters wide and 1.87 meters high, the five-door comes to 4.69 x 1.78 x 1.90 meters.

Engine variants

The vehicle was offered in two engine variants:

4- cylinder diesel engine

With this engine variant, it was a swirl chamber engine with turbocharging and intercooling. He had over 2500 cc and 73 kW (99 hp).

The same engine, there were also without charge air cooling with 65 kW (88 hp).

6- cylinder gasoline engine

The 6- cylinder 0.0 -3 - l petrol engine is considered to be relatively robust. He was operated with normal petrol, had 104 kW (141 hp) and hydraulic tappets.

Equipment

The Galloper had power steering and a driver's airbag, a passenger airbag was not available. ABS was available only in the Exceed - equipped with wide wheels, an automatic transmission only for the 3.0 V6. In the five- door model with long wheelbase were two folding single seats behind the rear seat as standard equipment ( seven-seater ). There was also a version with two benches along the direction of travel in the cargo space and high roof, it had a total of 10 seats. Actually a passenger transport license would have been necessary for the vehicle in Germany, but the description in the letter corresponded to the vehicle 9 seater. At the start of sales in Germany in 1998 cost the Galloper in the best version of DM 33,600 ( 17,179 euros ).
