Hyundai Trajet

Hyundai Trajet (1999-2004)

The Hyundai Trajet (internal abbreviation FO ) is a family van of the Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai.

Its sale was launched in April 1999 to the South Korean market, to Europe, he came in March 2000. Engines as were three petrol engines and one diesel available.

History

The Trajet (French for "way" or " path " ) is based on the common platform of the Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe and Kia Magentis. With the similar sized Kia Carnival, however, he has nothing in common. This was developed in parallel with the Trajet in the then still separate companies Hyundai and Kia.

The vehicle has a length of 4.70 meters, a load volume of up to 2,716 liters. In the interior there are seven individual seats that can be folded and removed in the second and third row. They weigh 22 kg with seven less than that of the Carnival. Stay up- installed, the boot takes 304 liters. As standard, the vehicle includes power windows and side mirrors, remote keyless entry, fog lights, air conditioning, adjustable lumbar support in the driver's seat and three 12V outlets.

The Trajet was the first vehicle with the participation of European design and development center created. 2003 Hyundai moved the center of Frankfurt to Rüsselsheim. It was produced in Ulsan, South Korea.

Security

The vehicle safety are front, side and head airbags. The back rows were no airbags. Also, belt force limiters are included only for the front seats. An anti -lock braking system is fitted as standard, traction control and ESP unavailable. The curve behavior rated the ADAC as sedate but good-natured. The steering is smooth, but somewhat imprecise, the braking distance is satisfactory.

The only carried out for the Trajet crash test NCAP Euro. This did not include a tail, stake, or rollover test.

Frontal test

  • EU - NCAP 1999-2008:

Is simulated in the Euro NCAP colliding of two 55 km / h faster, offset from each other propelled cars of comparable mass. The body structure has a very high rigidity. Due to inward turning welds during the test, however, the driver's door is pushed into the passenger compartment. This allows the driver strong ( lateral ) is vulnerable and exposed. His lower body is loaded by hard structures behind the steering column. Tested was 2003. Whether the welds with the facelift in 2004 have been changed, is not known. Euro NCAP sound but the result is true for all years. The passenger has only the chest area does not provide optimal protection, or he receives the highest safety rating. As part of the same old vehicles latter is above average, along with the driver's side has an average result.

Test page

  • EU - NCAP 1999-2008:

We tested the load at a side already moving at 50 km / h deformable barrier, which is modeled on a sedan. Are measured the loads above the hip. By the end construction body, the energy of van flat sedan is largely deflected in the bottom space. Nevertheless, the abdominal area is exposed to moderate loads. However, all other measurement points were given the best possible rating. This result is compared with the then Vans has an average because the test comes to meet all the higher vehicles. It should be noted, that was tested without side and curtain airbags, as they did not belong, according to Euro NCAP for fitting in most of Europe sold Trajets. At this equipment level, the consortium is based in the selection of test vehicles. With the airbags relief is to take the abdominal area.

Pedestrian test

  • EU - NCAP 1999-2008:

The head of a pedestrian would meet the Trajet on deformable shapes, otherwise the vehicle did not provide any protection. Only Toyota Picnic and Nissan Serena were already offering much better, but still inadequate protection.

Reliability

Two common problems of the Trajet arise out of its relationship to the sedan Sonata. Their camber plates were not adjusted to the higher weight of the van, causing them to wear out prematurely. This concerns mostly produce the front, then the cracking noise when steering. For their shelf life lubrication of ball bearing contained is recommended. In addition, is often affected apparently left camber. Above the camp, where it extends a drain pipe for rain water. Is this leaking, dripping water on the camp, which is broken prematurely as a result. Also, the diesel engine was not included and shortened by its higher torque, the clutch durability sometimes 100,000 km in the Sonata. Rare cracked ABS rings are mentioned. These gears rotate with the wheel axles and allow as induction encoder, the speed determination of the change of depression and increase the gear. By defect this frequency is no longer true on both wheels of an axle agreement whereby the ABS starts to regulate apparent reason. Due to the small difference in the ABS noise usually sounds unusual. The front wheel bearings of the Trajet tend mileages at approximately > 130,000 KM due to wear running noise. Here, the only one wheel bearing replacement. The Trajet is locate in no reliability statistics. Firstly, due to low sales figures and on the other by staying away from the U.S. market. But where the list of available platforms related Sonata, which provides a good alignment to the above, some parts congested.

Facelift

In spring 2004, the Trajet a facelift was subjected. In the presented at the International Automobile model the side direction indicators and the taillights were changed.

The interior has been expanded to a standard automatic climate control, a make-up mirror in the sun visor, new, lighter material colors, an illuminated glove box and an on-board computer. Safety side now also got the middle seat of the second row a three - point seat belt. In addition, the old Mitsubishi -based 2.0 petrol engine was replaced by a self-developed variable valve timing. This now delivers 103 kW ( 140 hp ), but the consumption is to be reduced by 0.6 liters to 8.7 liters in the combined cycle. The performance have been improved and the torque is increased.

Rear view

With the Football World Cup 2006 Hyundai Trajet was a fan and VIP shuttle part of the official vehicle fleet.

In early 2008 the production of the Hyundai Trajet has been set.

Motors

The engines were coupled with the exception of the V6 to a five -speed manual transmission or a 4- speed automatic transmission. The gasoline engines are classified according to Euro 4; the diesel meets the standard Euro 3 Therefore he had to be removed in 2006 from the program.
