I Capuleti ei Montecchi ( The Capulets and the Montague ) is an opera seria ( tragedian lirica ) in two acts by Vincenzo Bellini. The libretto was written by Felice Romani, based on various Italian sources, including Matteo Bandellos novella La morte di sfortunata due infelicissimi amanti ( The tragic death of two unfortunate lovers ), also William Shakespeare served as a model for his play Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare's play, however, was at that time almost unknown in Italy. The premiere took place in 1830 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice instead. The opera is set in Verona in the 13th century. The playing time is about two and a half hours.

Bellini has reused provided with several new pieces of text from his 1829 defeated in a world premiere opera I Capuleti ei Montecchi for Zaira. The romance of the Giulietta Oh quante volte is the aria Dopo l' oscuro Nelly nembo from Bellini 's first opera Adelson e Salvini basis.
