I Feel Fine

November 27, 1964

I Feel Fine ( dt, ' I'm fine ') is a song by British band The Beatles, released on 27 November 1964 as a single. It was written that song by John Lennon, but the authorship as with the Beatles is common as a Lennon / McCartney stated. The recording is considered the first publication that contains a guitar feedback.

Formation

Lennon initially developed inspired by Bobby Parker's Watch Your Step song guitar riff, which served as the basis for the entire composition. Watch Your Step belonged in the early 1960s to the live program of the Beatles.

Recording

I Feel Fine was recorded in London's Abbey Road Studios on 18 October 1964. It was produced by George Martin recording, as a sound engineer Geoff Emerick and acted Norman Smith. The band had the studio 2 of 14:30 bis 23:30 clock booked on that day. In those nine hours, they had next to I Feel Fine also Kansas City / Hey- Hey- Hey- Hey, Mr. Moonlight, I'll Follow the Sun, Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby, Rock and Roll Music and Words of Love. All the songs were intended for the next album Beatles For Sale, which had to be completed in time for Christmas 1964.

The recording session for I Feel Fine took nine takes to complete. It was the first recording of the Beatles, in which first only the instrumental accompaniment, and then the song was recorded by overdubbing. This was due to the fact that Lennon could not play at the same time and sing the song.

The striking reef with which the song begins, Lennon played on an acoustic Gibson guitar, which was electrically amplified. During recording, it accidentally came to a feedback, as Lennon leaned the guitar against his amp. The effect liked the band well and was henceforth used at the beginning of the song.

I Feel Fine is considered the first song in which feedback was used. Although previously bands like The Kinks or The Who feedback had used as a stylistic device on stage, but the Beatles were the first who published a feedback on record.

Publication

Originally, Eight Days a Week will be published as the next single of the Beatles. The plan, however, was dropped after I Feel Fine was found to be the better song. It was released on 27 November 1964 as the eighth single of the band. On the B - side is the McCartney composition She's a Woman.

In the UK and the U.S., the song reached number one on the singles charts. In Germany it reached number three.
