I Hate Myself (band)

I Hate Myself is an existing since 1996 Emotive Hardcore band (often mistakenly called "Emotional Hardcore " ) from Gainesville, Florida / USA.

History

The emo band founded in 1996 by two brothers, Jim and Jon Marburger and Steve Jin was one of the - especially lyrically - influential groups of the genre.

In 1997, the band released with the label No Idea Records its first half-sided LP with 4 songs. In addition to the 10 - song LP in the same year, the band released 1998, two splits. Later followed in addition to a 7 " EP- plate CDs of the band, especially summaries with songs of earlier years.

End of the 90s the brothers Marburger form the band Burnman, but which is resolved quickly. Drummer Jon Marburger then goes to also be published at No Idea Records band Gunmoll.

I Hate Myself playing in 2003 as such again for some shows in their hometown of Gainesville. 2005, the two brothers take on three new songs for the band. In addition, they also play in the band Hope, whose first album was released in 2006.

In interviews, the band further shows extremely critical of the youth fashion scene Emo and associated - erroneously referred to as Emo - post-hardcore and alternative rock bands.

So Jon said in an interview:

" [ ... ] Now the word [ Emo, CoR ] bothers the hell out of me. It has come to signify the reemergence of 80's glam bands. It has lost the punk ideal it originally contained. These bands are in no way punk or DIY. They area all about image, wealth and lazy songwriting. [ ... ] i hate [ The "emo " fashion ]. Everyone likes to play dressup, But They get out of hand. I understand wanting to look different than the jocks and the squares but It Seems thatthere is a lack of substance to the new fashion. And It Seems awfully expensive. So, it must take a lot of time to polish all Of Those rings and belt buckles. Maybe I am just jealous because i can not pull off pink swooping bangs with a lip piercing and woman 's jeans. [ ... ] "

The author Tao Lin built the band a Eeee Eee Eeee in his book. In this book discuss the characters on tape and the songs and quote the lyrics.

Style

The style typically applies despite a remarkable own sounds for the emotive hardcore and impacted despite the relative geographic isolation of the band in relation to other focus more extension centers of music, such as Washington, DC, San Diego or New York, very strong in the following Emo, but especially on screamo bands from.

The 20 tracks of the band carry almost all no names, similar to other Emo bands such as Indian Summer. An exception is the song Less Than Nothing, who was appearing on the first half-page LP released on a later Sampler officially given a name.

In Everything2 is to read about the lyrics of the band:

" I Hate Myself, rising out of a scene did relied on cryptic lyrics and fragmentary liner notes, eagerly proclaiming Their worthless lives, Their desires to be accepted and loved, Their utter hopelessness. It was a bit odd. Yet, while there are traces of humor in the bands work, the Majority of It Seems to be delivered Entirely without irony. "
