I Just Called to Say I Love You is a song by Stevie Wonder from 1984, written by Wonder and produced and used for the soundtrack to the movie The Woman in Red.

History

I Just Called to Say I Love You was released on September 12, 1984 worldwide and reached number one in many countries of the charts. In Germany the hit stayed there for six weeks on the top position ( from 28 September to 8 November 1984). At the Academy Awards in 1985, the song won in the category Music (Original Song).

Following the publication of Wonder was sued by his former manager Lee Garrett on the basis of copyright rights, as Garrett claimed that he had written the song. The suit was later withdrawn.

In the television series The Cosby Show Stevie Wonder sings the song as a duet with Phylicia Rashad (as Claire Huxtable Olivia ), whose voice was heard in the German dubbed version. At the end of almost sings with the whole family.

In the fourth season of the TV series Stromberg the song plays a crucial role in the fifth episode.
