I (Kana)

いin hiragana orイin katakana (i Romanized ) is one of the Japanese kana, which represents a Mora. いbased on the sōsho style of Kanji以. イis derived from the radical of the kanji伊. In the modern Japanese alphabetical sorting it stands at the second position, betweenあandう. It is also the first letter in Iroha beforeろ. Both representing [i].

For the combinationいぃorイィthere is no uniform regulation in the Hepburn system, according to the variant Hyōjun - shiki, as amended in 1974 this as yi is transcribed.
