I, Libertine

I, Libertine is a literary forgery, which was started by radio host Jean Shepard.

Genesis

Shepard was dissatisfied with the way in the 1950s in America bestseller lists were created. If 've been asking for a book, so it landed on top of the list. That's why Shepard called on his listeners, according to a book that did not exist to ask. He designed a short plot and chose a title "I, Libertine ". Soon the book was on the bestseller list. Alleged author of the book was Frederick R. Ewing.

Success of the book

The bookstores were now keen to sell the book. Shepard met with the publisher Ian Keith Ballantine and the author Theodore Sturgeon, now to actually write a book of that name with such a history. On September 13, 1956, the novel was published.

A few weeks before the publication of the hoax, however, was revealed.
