I Met the Walrus

I Met the Walrus is a Canadian animated short film directed by Josh Raskin from the year 2007.

Action

In 1969, the Beatles fan Jerry Levitan, John Lennon interviewed in a hotel in Toronto and recorded the interview with tape. The audio of the interview is transmitted in animation.

Levitan wants to know about Lennon as his current position with regard to his entry test in the United States. Lennon notes that one not want him because everyone thinks he will start a revolution. Others do not want him there, because they believe that he wants to create peace. He firmly believes that he will enter and replies on Levitan's question of how he could help the youth that everyone should act in the name of peace. Everyone should draw a revolutionary ask when a revolution had ever been militarily useful. Lennon calls for peaceful protest, as violence only producing counter-violence. At the same time, each working on his good side, because in every human being not only God, but also Hitler was alive.

Levitan says that many classmates call as favorite band the Bee Gees and the Beatles despise hippies, but Lennon says that these are boring, have not yet managed to cutting the cord from the parents opinion. On the determination of Levitan's that he thinks he hears a message in the songs of the Beatles, Lennon said that there are always different messages at all levels. He had a had in mind when he wrote the songs, and later sought after, when he again heard the songs. The message was always about everything and anything and everything that you think you understand, is also there. It is like a flower that also all clubs in which one would turn recognize when you look at the flower long enough.

Lennon begins to search for a pen. He talks to other people in the room. Levitan says goodbye to Lennon, Yoko Ono in the background wishes good luck and peace.

Production

I Met the Walrus is based on an interview with Jerry Levitan led by John Lennon at the age of 14 years in 1969. This remained at the time of King Edward Hotel in Toronto for a bed-in on. The Beatles fan Levitan came up to Lennon's suite and led with Lennon for 30 minutes an interview, which he recorded on tape.

The interview was edited together for the film to five minutes. The questions and answers were animated by James Braithwaite and Alex Kurina with pen and computer. Work on the film began in 2006 and was completed in 2007, with Jerry Levitan served as producer. The film experienced on 14 June 2007 at the Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto its festival premiere.

The film's title refers to the written by Lennon Beatles' I Am the Walrus.

Awards

The Daytime Emmy Awards, the film won 2009 Daytime Emmy and received on the RiverRun International Film Festival 2008 Jury Prize. On the Banff Television Festival, the film won a Banff Rockie Award.

I Met the Walrus was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award in the category " Best Animated Short Film ", but could not prevail against Peter and the Wolf himself.
