Background

Peter Jackson discovered Ed Sheeran by his daughter Katie, who was on one of his concerts in New Zealand in early 2013. About three months before the release of the film took Jackson and his team still have a suitable interpreter who can accommodate the end -credit song for Smaug wasteland. Since Katie resembled Sheeran and hit him with her father as a potential singers before. After the consent of Jackson Sheeran traveled within 48 hours to New Zealand to be there to watch the whole movie and compose a fitting song for the end. The Hobbit is also the first book that Sheeran has read as a child.
