Iain Fraser (ice hockey)

Iain James Fraser ( born August 10, 1969 in Scarborough, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. During his career he played for the New York Islanders, Quebec Nordiques, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League and the Schwenningen Wild Wings, Capitals Berlin and Frankfurt Lions in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

Career

Fraser played for four years from 1986 to 1990 in the Ontario Hockey League with the Oshawa Generals. After only sporadically came into use in the first two seasons, he developed with 90 points from 62 games at one of the top scorer of the team. The following year he was able to increase its yield point by a further 15 and led the team both on winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup, the championship of the OHL, and also to win the Memorial Cup. He himself was awarded the Stafford Smythe this Memorial Trophy for the best player of the Memorial Cup Tournament.

At the start of the game year 1990/91 the New York Islanders took him under contract, who had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 in the twelfth round at 233 position. The first three years as a professional spent the Center exclusively with the Capital District Islanders of the American Hockey League before he was first used in the 1992/93 season in seven NHL games. In the following five seasons until 1998, played for the Quebec Nordiques Fraser, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks, but came to a total of only 94 NHL games in which he scored 46 points. In the summer of 1998, the Canadians left the North American continent and joined the German Hockey League to the Schwenningen Wild Wings, where he played for two years. More DEL stations were in the seasons 2000/ 01 and 2001/ 02, the Berlin Capitals and Frankfurt Lions. There were other changes, first back to North America in the West Coast Hockey League with the Fresno Falcons, then back to Europe. There he played in the UK and Italy. After eight games in the season 2006/ 07 he ended his active career.

Internationally

Fraser represented the Canadian national team at the World Ice Hockey Championships in 1995. With nine points in eight games he played a key role in winning the bronze medal.
