Iajuddin Ahmed

Iajuddin Ahmed ( Bengali: ইয়াজউদ্দীন আহমেদ Iyājuddīn Ahmed, born 1 February 1931 in Bikrampur, † December 10, 2012 in Bangkok ) was a Bangladeshi politician and from 2002 to 2009 head of state of his country. He was the son of Moulvi Ibrahim.

Life

After studying soil science at the University of Dhaka, Ahmed received his doctorate in 1962 in the United States. After studying at the University of Wisconsin -Madison, he returned to Bangladesh in 1973 and was Professor and Head of the Department of Soil Science at the University of Dhaka. In addition, Ahmed was Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences in the capital. Later Ahmed perceived also visiting professor in Germany and the U.S. and had recently the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University held private.

On September 6, 2002, he was sworn in as successor Badruddoza Chowdhury 17th President of Bangladesh.

Even after the constitutional end of his term on 5 September 2007 Iajuddin Ahmed remained in the presidency. In the presidential elections on 11 February 2009, Zillur Rahman, who ran as the only candidate, proclaimed by the electoral commission president. The following day he was sworn.
