Ian Hill

Ian Hill ( born January 20, 1951 in West Bromwich, England) is co-founder and bassist of the heavy metal band Judas Priest. Hill married in 1976 Sue Halford, the sister of singer Rob Halford. 1980 their son Alexander was born. The marriage was divorced in 1984.

Career

Together with guitarist KK Downing, with whom he had previously worked together musically in a band called Freight, he founded with Judas Priest a band that the world has had great success to date. Glenn Tipton and Rob Halford, Judas Priest is known for, came only in 1972 and 1974 the band. Sue Halford, was romantically involved with Hill at the time, suggested after the departure of vocalist Alan Atkins her brother Rob as his successor before.

Although Hill is co-founder of the band, he stood by Judas Priest never in the foreground and also wrote no songs. His bass playing is confined mostly to the baseline, although several older live recordings prove that he is readily able to play complicated riffs and even solos.

"He is a very talented and remarkable bass player. I say it a lot because it is often overlooked. He plays beautifully and full of ideas, and always skillfully combines the game of the drummer with the guitarist. [ ... ] Ian plays simple, effective lines - this is exactly what needs the music of Judas Priest ".

Equipment

Hill initially played Fender Jazz bass. In the 1980s he moved - as the guitarist - the brand Hamer. He currently plays Spector basses. Spector produces an Ian Hill signature model. As an amplifier SWR products are used.
