Ian Millar

Ian Millar, CM ( born January 6, 1947 in Halifax, Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian show jumping world champion and Olympic silver medalist.

Because of its durability and performance, he got the nickname "Captain Canada". Since the 2012 Olympics, he holds the record for most appearances at Olympic Games with 10 participants.

Career

Millar is nine -time winner of the Canadian Championship and has won six Spruce Meadows Derbys. Thus, he has amassed $ 2.2 million with a record prize money. With his horse Big Ben, Millar won more than 40 Grand Prix world. At the Pan American Games in August 1987 Ian Millar became the second Canadian who was able to win a single gold medal. Since 1972 he was a member in each Canadian Show Jumping Team.

In 1986 he was Member of the Order of Canada and he was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he won the silver medal in the team with Jill Hensel Wood, Eric Lamaze and Mac Cone.

In February 2012, he is ranked No. 34 of the show jumping world rankings.

Private

In March 2008, his wife Lynn died of cancer. Millar's children Jonathon and Amy are as jumpers also internationally for Canada at the start. Together they operate a farm in Perth in the Canadian province of Ontario.
