Ian P. Griffin

Ian P. Griffin (born 1958 ) is a British astronomer and discoverer of asteroids.

He studied astronomy at University College London and in 1991 earned doctoral degrees.

From 1990 to 1995 he was director of the Armagh Planetarium in Northern Ireland. From there he moved to the Astronaut Memorial Planetarium and Observatory of Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Florida, and then at the Auckland Observatory in New Zealand. Between 2004 and 2007 he worked as director of the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. He is currently the Executive Board of the nonprofit organization Science Oxford.

In the period from 1998 to 1999, he identified with colleagues a total of 25 asteroids.

In addition, he discovered and described the trans-Neptunian binary system 1998 WW31 in the Kuiper Belt.
