Ian Raby

Ian Raby (* September 22 1921 Woolwich, † November 7, 1967 in Lambeth ) was a British racing driver.

The used car dealer Raby denied his first car race in the 1950s in Formula 3 truly successful the baby steps were not only with the purchase of Cooper 1956, the tide turned. Raby could retract some victories and until 1958 he also drove alongside Formula 3 sports car racing.

Beginning of the 1960s he concentrated fully on the single-seater sports. After two seasons in Formula Junior to Raby in 1962 bought a discarded Gilby to enter around 1963 in the Formula 1. He was third at the Grand Prix of Rome and gave the Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone his debut in the World Cup.

In 1964, Gilby was replaced by a Brabham BT3, with the Raby played two more Grand Prix races.

1966 moved Raby with a Brabham BT14 in the formula 2 He was fifth at the Eifel race before a serious accident at Brands Hatch ended the season prematurely. 1967, already 46 years old, he returned to the formula 2, to participate in the first European Championship. In the race at Zandvoort he had another serious accident. Although Raby could be salvaged from the wreckage alive, but died a few weeks later from his injuries.
