Career

Association

Rush's career began in 1978 at Chester City in the Football League Third Division. In the aftermath, the young attacker has established itself as a regular player and Torgaranten for his team. Finally, the top English clubs were aware of the young kicker. In 1980 he moved to Liverpool, where Rush had his greatest successes. Rush scored for Liverpool 229 goals in 469 league games and was awarded with the " Reds " 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1990 English champion. He is the best scorer in the club's history of Liverpool FC. He also won the 1986, 1989 and 1992 FA Cup and 1984 European Champion Clubs' Cup. 1984 was his most successful year personally because he Footballer of the Year and also Europe 's top scorer of the year was in England this year ( with 32 hits ). In the season 1987/88 he made a trip to Italy to Juventus, where he was, however, not happy. Later in his career he was still active for Leeds United, Newcastle United and Wrexham FC.

In recognition of his achievements and merits he was inducted in 2006 into the English Football Hall of Fame. In the same year, for over 110,000 Liverpool fans their personal top 100 players of the club ( " 100 players who shook the Kop "). Ian Rush landed behind Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard and before Robbie Fowler and John Barnes in third place.

He also played for the Welsh national team and scored 28 goals in 73 international matches, so he's still Welsh record holder. However, the opportunity was denied him to participate in a major football tournament ( World Cup or European Championship ).
