IATA Accident Classification Task Force

The IATA Accident Classification Task Force ( ACTF ) is a working group of the International Air Transport Association (IATA ) and deals with the classification of aircraft accidents to aircraft for commercial air transport with a take-off mass exceeding 20 tonnes at Jets and with more than 5.7 tonnes turboprops. The group meets in January and analyzes the accidents last year. The aim of the work is the elaboration of correlations ( causal chains ) and of recommendations, which are summarized in the IATA Safety Report. To classify a separate classification scheme is used, which was presented at the International Air Safety Seminar 2008.

The Task Force has emerged from the Accident Classification Working Group ( ACWG ) and is made up of aviation safety experts from different regions of airlines, manufacturers, representatives of air traffic control, air navigation chart providers, the International Pilot Association and insurance companies together. The inclusion in the working group is done by invitation. The broad diversification of expertise ensures that all possible aspects of an accident illuminated and the accidents are correctly classified. The group will meet each other twice a year (since 2010, previously once a year in January).
