Iberville Parish, Louisiana
The Iberville Parish is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Baton Rouge.
Geography
The Parish is located southeast of the geographic center of Louisiana, is in the south about 60 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 1691 square kilometers, of which 89 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following Parishes:
History
The Iberville Parish was formed on April 10, 1805 as one of the 19 original Parishes. It was named after Pierre Le Moyne d' Iberville (1661-1706), founder of the French colony of Louisiana.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Iberville Parish 33.320 people in 10,674 households and 8,016 families. The population density was 21 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 49.26 percent White, 49.70 percent Black or African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.14 percent from other races groups; 0.45 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.03 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 10,674 households out of which 36.2 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 49.6 percent were married couples living together, 20.4 percent were single mothers, 24.9 percent were non-families, 21.9 percent of all households and 8.5 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.29 persons.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 26.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 10.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 31.1 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.5 percent between 45 and 64 years and 10.7 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 29,039, and the median income for a family was $ 34,100. Males have a median income of $ 32,074, women $ 20,007. The per capita income was $ 13,272. 19.5 percent of families 23.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 30.1 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 18.3 percent of those 65 years.
