Ibn 'Abd al-Hakam

Ibn ʿ Abd al - Hakam, full name Abū l - Qāsim ʿ Abd ar - Rahmaan ibn ʿ Abd Allāh ibn ʿ Abd al - Hakam (Arabic أبو القاسم عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله بن عبد الحكم, DMG Abū l - Qāsim ʿ Abd al-Rahman b. ʿ Abd Allāh b ʿ Abd al - Hakam, . * ca 803 in Fustat; † 871 ) was an Egyptian Muslim historian and legal scholar.

Life

Ibn Abd al - Hakam came from a respected family from Fustat. His three brothers got into some high positions and were, like their father, legal scholars. Ibn Abd al - Hakam himself was considered an expert on the Hadith. His family was 851 accused of having embezzled large sums of money and was subsequently discredited.

Ibn Abd al - Hakam wrote a historical work ( Futuh Miṣr wa - aḫbāru - hā ), which deals with the history of Egypt from its beginnings to the time of the Arab conquest. Also be taken of other Arab conquests in North Africa and Spain, questions of financial administration, the owner of the highest judicial office in Egypt and Hadithüberlieferer.
