Ibrahim al-Yaziji

Ibrahim al - Yazigi (Arabic ابراهيم اليازجي, DMG Ibrāhīm al - Yāziǧī; * 1847, † 1906) was a Lebanese scholar, poet and journalist. He belonged to the Christian Catholic population in Lebanon.

His family is originally from Homs in Syria and she emigrated before he was born in Lebanon. He was chief editor of several newspapers and magazines, for example on - Naǧāh, aṭ - Tabib and Ad- Diya ʾ.

He was commissioned by the Jesuits, to translate the Bible into Arabic. She was the second translation of the Bible into modern Arabic language. The first translation was of the Protestant missionaries under the leadership of the missionary Cornelius Van Dyke, the founder of the American University of Beirut, commissioned two Christian- Lebanese writer and philologist, Butrus al - Bustani and Nasif al - Yāziǧī. Their translation of the Bible appeared in 1856. The translation of al - Yāziǧī was published 1876-1880 and was linguistically richer than the first translation of the Protestants.
