Ibrahim Sunday

Ibrahim Sunday ( born August 1, 1950) is a Ghanaian football coach and former international player.

Career as a player

The midfielder Sunday began his career at Kumasi Asante Kotoko, where he quickly became the captain. In 1970 he won with this club the African Champions League and received a year later the title of " African Footballer of the Year". In 1975, Sunday to Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga, but in his two years at the Weser he had only one league use when he played the second half against Rot-Weiss Essen in June 1976.

National

He was appointed for the first time in Ghana's national team in 1966. His first official international tournament was the Africa Cup of countries in 1968, where he scored a decisive goal to progress in the semi-final against Ivory Coast. However, the final lost against the DR Congo. Also in the Africa Cup of 1970, he was employed; in the semi-finals of the 1968 edition, he scored the opening goal. Although Ghana won 2-1, but the final was again lost, this time against the hosts Sudan. This game was Sundays last appearance in the Africa Cup of countries, as Ghana failed to qualify for the tournaments in 1972, 1974 and 1976. For Ghana reached Sunday 's Olympic soccer tournament in Munich in 1972.

Coaching career

As a coach Sunday worked at Asante Kotoko, where he was able in 1983 to celebrate their second victory in the African Champions League, and for the Ivorian club Africa Sports in Abidjan, with whom he won the 1992 African Cup Winners' Cup and the African Supercup.
