IBSA Dialogue Forum

The IBSA Dialogue Forum ( IBSA Dialogue Forum engl.; port. Fórum de Diálogo IBAS ) is a coordinating mechanism of the three emerging economies India, Brazil and South Africa. On this platform, the three countries to discuss opportunities for cooperation, inter alia, in the areas of agriculture, commerce, culture and defense.

All three countries are market-oriented democracies with a large population and great cultural and ethnic diversity. They are leading powers in their respective region of the world: India in South Asia, Brazil in South America, South Africa in Southern Africa.

The decision to establish the IBSA Dialogue Forum summarized the Foreign Minister Celso Amorim (Brazil), Yashwant Sinha (India) and Nkosazana Dlamini -Zuma (South Africa) in June 2003 in Brasilia. In a "Declaration of Brasilia " she pleaded - as opposed to the People's Republic of China - to democracy, peace and human rights. Since then, the foreign, defense and trade ministers meet regularly to consultations. Since 2006, Summit of Heads of State and Government are held.

The three Südmächte one the desire to improve their position as representatives of their region of the world in international bodies like the United Nations Security Council. In addition, they coordinate their action in the World Trade Organization from the target, on the one hand the export sector to secure free access to the world markets as well as to protect domestic industries from ruinous competition from abroad.

Within the framework of defense cooperation of the three countries in 2008 and 2010, the joint exercises between the navies IBSAMAR Brazil, South Africa and India took place. Another edition of the maneuver as IBSAMAR 3 (August 2012) planned for September or October 2012.
