History

After a European tender DSB ordered in December 2000, a total of 83 four -piece units from the manufacturer AnsaldoBreda. The MG trains are the DSB MF replace long-distance transport. The IC3 units are in turn replace locomotive-hauled trains in regional traffic.

The first trains were to be delivered in April 2003 and placed in service from January 2004 to 2006. Technical problems at a supplier made this schedule to naught for the first time. In the summer of 2007, finally first trains were in the approval process. As a temporary replacement leased ICE -TD can be used in transport to Germany.

Mid-2008, the DSB established the producers an ultimatum. Therefore must meet the requirements for a full listing at least 14 trains by May 2009. In addition, at least one unit must fully meet the contractually agreed terms. If the manufacturer does not comply with this, the DSB wanted to withdraw from the 670- million-euro contract. By mid-2008, the trains did not come of the test runs and individual inserts also in travel. Problems are particularly the multiple unit control.

On 1 December 2008, the DSB adopted the passenger service on first with multiple units. Already since August 7, 2008, diesel railcars in space Aarhus had been tested. By early December 2008, five trainsets were handed over to the DSB.

By May 2009, there AnsaldoBreda managed to provide the required 14 trains, so that the DSB resigned from the contract. However, all 14 trains had again returned to Italy to perform mechanical changes and a software update.

In the May 20, 2009, the DSB agreed to the effect with AnsaldoBreda that 83 IC4 and IC2 23 are to be delivered by 2012 and AnsaldoBreda a severance payment of 2.25 billion EUR has to be paid ( EUR 300 million), for the DSB The following are used:

  • DKK 0.8 billion ( EUR 107 million) for the completion and improvement of the trains in a workshop in East Jutland
  • DKK 0.7 billion ( EUR 94 million) for the hire of replacement trains ( 45 double-deck coaches at Rail pool and three DMUs ICE -TD )
  • DKK 0.5 billion ( EUR 67 million ) for a program to improve the punctuality of long-distance and regional traffic
  • DKK 0.25 billion ( EUR 34 million) were paid in 2005 and have therefore been used.

The compensation payable for late delivery by more than five years, account for almost half of the contract value. The series production had been temporarily relocated from Pistoia to Milan.

In the second half of 2009, another train was delivered. By the fall of 2012, all 83 to be delivered. If delivery of eight trains gets more than six months in arrears, the DSB may withdraw from the contract.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has said Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is the 40th anniversary of its revolution in 2010 as a state gift to the salon railcar converted IC4 from the current production of these trains for the Danish State Railways. It was a four -piece unit with two salon and a conference car. The facilities included an Italian espresso machine and a jogging treadmill. The diesel railcar is designed for speeds up to 200 km / hr. Since the only navigable route in Libya - as a test track near Tripoli - only a five-kilometer section of the railway line Ras Ejder - Sirt exist, it was never used. He has the civil war but rather unscathed.

On 4 May 2011, the DSB has the further delivery of IC4 stopped after the trains were severely flawed and only a small portion of the trains delivered could be used. The DSB has expanded workshop capacities in Denmark in order to rework the trains themselves can.

On November 15, 2011, shut down all MG by the DSB until further notice and replaced by other vehicles. Previously had run over on November 4, 2011 in Hoje Taastrup and on November 7, 2011 in Marslev Sogn two IC4 due to problems with the braking technology content displayed signals. The Danish Bureau of Investigation noted similarities between the two incidents, after which the trains were off until the issue is resolved for safety reasons.

On 11 July 2012, the DSB adopted the passenger service between Aarhus and Esbjerg with first IC4 trains again. On August 13, 2012, the section between Aarhus and Aalborg followed.
