Ice hockey at the 1920 Summer Olympics

The Olympic ice hockey tournament of the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium has long been regarded as a demonstration event and was therefore not the official Olympic program. Only recently it has been recognized by the IOC as an official Olympic tournament. The Olympic hockey tournament was the first Nations tournament in Europe, attended by representatives of the U.S. and Canada; the tournament was therefore - however, until after the fact - by the International Ice Hockey Federation ( IIHF ) declared the first World Ice Hockey Championships. The games took place between April 29, 1920 at the Palais de Glace d' Anvers of 23.

A total of seven teams took part; the tournament was held in Bergvall system. In this case, the losing finalist was not automatically runner, but had an additional round with those teams deny that had failed on the overall winner. In the same way, there was a round in the bronze medal. Canada, which had been sent with the Winnipeg Falcons, the best amateur team in the country the season 1919/20, to Antwerp, won the tournament and won his first Olympic title and world title. Seven nations started in the first Olympic ice hockey tournament. In the knock-out system of the gold medal winner was determined. Due to the odd number of participants, France received a bye and advanced to the semifinals before a fight.

Silver Medal Round

To the silver medal played the three teams that were defeated in the main round of Canada. Czechoslovakia received a bye and reached the finals without a fight.

Bronze Medal Round
