Ice hockey at the 1994 Winter Olympics

The 1994 Winter Olympics were held in Norway in Lillehammer. The Olympic hockey tournament was held here in time from 12 to 27 February. Twelve teams participated in this tournament. Venues were the Håkon Hall in Lillehammer and the Rock ( Fjell- ) Hall in Gjøvik.

Were eligible to participate, the eleven best teams in the A- group of the Ice Hockey World Championship 1993 include host Norway, as well as a qualifier. At the inaugural tournament for an Olympic qualifying tournament, the two best teams in the B- World Cup last year, the winner of the C- WM and the world's highest ranking Asian representatives participated. Added to this was a wild card, the strong team of the newly created Slovakia. The qualifying tournament was held in the UK.

Compared to the Olympic tournament of 1992, there were no changes in host mode this year. The preliminary rounds with two preliminary round groups followed the play-offs of the best eight teams with quarterfinals, semifinals and finals as well as the placement of the respective games eliminated teams.

Olympic champion for the first time in Sweden, who defeated in a highly dramatic final Canada only in the shootout. For Canada, it was the second silver medal in a row. The bronze medal went to Finland.
