Ice hockey at the 1999 Asian Winter Games

The hockey competitions of the Fourth Asian Winter Games were held from January 30 to February 6, 1999 in the South Korean province of Gangwon -do instead. Besides the host nation South Korea participated in the men's five other countries - Japan, the People's Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Kuwait - the contest. The first-time participation of Mongolia and Kuwait a new record number of participants has been reached. The gold medal secured again Kazakhstan, which had no tournament defeat. Behind Japan and China won the other medals.

At the ice hockey tournament for women participated in four teams. The participants were the host nation, Japan, Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China. As with the men, the People's Republic of China was unbeaten to win the gold medal and defend their title. Again, silver went to Japan, Kazakhstan won bronze.

The six participants were first divided into two groups of three teams. They played in a single round, the two final round participants from each group.

After the preliminary round, the two last-place teams completed the game for fifth place. The four final round participants played - taking with it the result of the direct encounter of the first round - the gold medal winners. The team with the most points won the gold medal.
