Ice hockey at the 2014 Winter Olympics – Women's tournament

During the 2014 Winter Olympics took in the ice hockey competition at the women, as at the Games in Vancouver, eight teams in the tournament. The games were in the Shaiba - Ice Arena (Russian: Ледовая арена " Шайба ") held that holds 7,000 spectators.

For the tournament, the first six nations of the IIHF World Ranking qualified after completion of the 2012 World Championships and two other participants who were played in qualifying tournaments.

Qualification

The teams from the World No. 7 played between October 2012 and February 2013, the two remaining places in a multilevel system in qualifying tournaments from. A total of 18 countries reported for the seven tournaments.

The winners of the pre-qualification (Denmark and the Netherlands) and the eleven national teams in world ranking places 13 to 18 met in the first qualifying round in two groups (E & F) à four teams to each other. Only the two group winners reached the second qualifying round, where they met the six teams that places 7 to 12 occupied in the world rankings. There again into two groups (C & D) was played with four teams each. The group winners who qualified for the Olympic Hockey Tournament.

Prequalification

In September and October 2012, two pre- Qualifikationstruniere were played. This demonstrates the eight teams entered from World No. 19 took part after the 2012 World Championships. The pre-qualification was played in two groups. As the host served it places in the world rankings at the rearmost point of the eligible teams.

Winner of Vorqualifikationsturniere were the teams from Denmark and the Netherlands, which therefore were allowed to participate in the qualifying tournament ( in groups E & F).

Group G

The preliminary round tournament of the group G was discharged at the ice rink on the site of the largest football stadium in Europe, Camp Nou.

Group H

The games in Group H were held in Polish Jastrzębie -Zdrój in the ice rink Jastor.

First qualifying round

The first qualifying round took place between the 8th and 11th November 2012. The in the world rankings better placed enjoyed the right to host the tournament. China and Latvia took advantage of this right.

Group E

The matches in Group E of the first qualifying round took place in the Chinese city of Shanghai in the SUS sports complex ( Songjiang University Sports Centre).

Group F

The matches in Group F of the first qualifying round took place in the rink ( lett: Ledus hall ) of the Vidzeme Olimpiskais Centrs ( Vidzeme Olympic Center ) held in the Latvian city of Valmiera.

Second qualifying round

The second qualifying round was held between February 10, 2013 from 7. The two enjoyed in the first place seeded teams the right to decide on the place of alignment and made them even use.

Group C

The Group C matches were held in Slovakia from 7 to 10 February 2013 ice stadium in Poprad. Dabie sat the Japanese national ice hockey team of women with two wins and one defeat after penalty shoot- through and thus qualified for the main tournament in 2014.

Group D

The Group D games were held from February 7 to 10 in the Hans- cupping Arena in pastures instead. Here, the German national ice hockey team of women prevailed with three wins and qualified for the main Olympic tournament in Sochi.

Mode

The eight teams in the Olympic Hockey Tournament were divided into the first round in two groups of four teams each. Indeed, these two groups were based on the standings of the teams in the IIHF World Ranking after the 2012 World Championships the following key together:

The teams ranked 1-4 in the world rankings are in Group A, the places 5-6 in Group B. Group B is supplemented. Due to the two winners of the qualifying groups

Within the groups, the teams play next on the mode -for- each, so that each team initially denies three games. The top two finishers of the higher laws Group A will qualify directly for the semi-finals, while the third and fourth place in Group A and the two winners of Group B play in the quarterfinals against each other. The winners of the semi-finals then compete in the finals for the gold and silver medal and the losers of the semi-finals in the 3rd place match for the bronze medal. The losers of the two quarter-final games with the two bottom team in Group B at the 5th to 8th places
