With six participating teams, the response was not quite as big as last year, when nine teams took part. For this was allowed to join a German team for the first time after the First World War. For the first time was a Representation of Hungary. In addition to these two teams hosts Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia and Poland were still in the process defending champion Switzerland did not occur to. The tournament was played under the league principle.

Surprisingly weak was the appearance of the four-time European champions Czechoslovakia. The record European champions celebrated just one win and finished the tournament as the second to last. The way was clear for the host, who this year has managed to add the title for the first time after the Vice European Championship last year. A comeback celebrated the Belgians, who could not celebrate successful performances more to their surprise title win in 1913. This year it was enough now to sensational runner. Also EM returnees Germany was successful and celebrated his first postwar same tournament winning the bronze medal.
