Ice Hockey European Championship 1929

The 14th Ice Hockey Championship took place this year in Hungary; was played from January 28 to February 3, 1929 in the Hungarian capital Budapest. Participants in addition to host Hungary, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Germany and Italy. The first reported Finns gave up participation.

The competition format was similar to the EM 1926. Was played first in three preliminary round groups of three teams ( by the withdrawal of Finland played the group A with only 2 teams). The group winners qualify directly for the semi-finals, while the runners-up playing off the fourth semi-finalists in a repechage. Other Placement matches for places 7 and 8 did not exist. For the first time was played with a pure EM tournament after the Canadian model in three thirds and not in two halves.

New hockey became European champions Czechoslovakia, thus already won her fifth title. The team of Poland celebrated their biggest success with the silver medal.
