Iceberg B-17B

B-17 B is the name of an iceberg, which had dissolved around 1999 as part of a piece about 400 km ² ice surface of the eastern flank of the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica.

Nature

The iceberg was about 19 km long, eight kilometers wide and 140 km ². He was discovered by the analysis of satellite images of the Tasmanian glaciologist Neal Young.

Movement

The iceberg was moving by sea currents and wind driven in a northeasterly direction to Australia, along the south coast and then to the southeast. Even before reaching the coast he broke into hundreds of smaller pieces and finally melted.
