Icefall

An ice cliff is formed when a glacier breaks off on a higher ground level.

There the gradient change so much that it comes to extreme fracturing and the ice ruptures in the transverse and longitudinal direction. Often this individual, many meters high columns of ice, called seracs arise.

A well known is the Icefall Khumbu Icefall on the southern side of Mount Everest.
