The Iceland Academy of Arts ( Isl: Listaháskóli Íslands ) in Reykjavik is the only art school in Iceland and provides an artistic education at university level. It was founded on 21 September 1998 and is currently headed by its rector Hjálmar H. Ragnarsson.

The Art Academy is like all Icelandic higher education institutions functioning autonomously and under the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. The curriculum is divided into five fields of Fine Art, theater and dance, music, design, architecture and art education. The university maintains three different locations in the city of Reykjavík. Music, theater and dance are housed at the Sölvhólsgata in the building, design and architecture to Skipholt. The building of Fine Arts is located just outside, near the recreation area Laugarnes.

At present it is only possible to obtain a Master's degree in the fields of music and art education. The other courses are recognized as bachelor's degree programs.

Teaching

The Academy has set itself the task of promoting progressive thinking and promote innovation and development in different areas. The art school offers art education at the university level and imparts knowledge and professionalism in the art at the Icelandic population.
