Iceland national football team

The Icelandic national football team is the selection of the best football players from Iceland.

To date, the team failed to qualify for either a World Cup or a European Football Championship. In the FIFA world rankings it is ranked 46 (October 2013). Eidur Gudjohnsen 's captain, who is the leading scorer with 24 goals.

In qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil Iceland met with Albania, Norway, Switzerland, Slovenia and Cyprus. In Iceland the group reached the second place, played with it in the play-offs on 15 and November 19, 2013 against Croatia, but lost after a goalless draw in Reykjavík then 0-2 in Zagreb.

In the qualifiers for Euro 2016 Iceland meets the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Latvia and Kazakhstan for the first time on, bringing the two farthest apart located UEFA members meet.

In the friendly match of 24 April 1996 against Estonia in Tallinn came on in the second half, Eidur Gudjohnsen as a substitute for his father Arnór. That was the first time that a father and his son playing in the same international match.
