The parliamentary elections in Iceland in 1991 took place on 20 April 1991. Newly elected, the two chambers ( upper and lower house ) of the national parliament Althingi. The choice was between 63 parliamentary seats; including 42 in the House and 21 in the House of Lords.

The election brought a victory for the Independence Party under Davíð Oddsson, who replaced Steingrímur Hemm of the Progress Party as prime minister. David's party could unite 38.6 % of the vote, reaching 8 more seats. However, it was the Civic Democratic Party, founded in 1987 ( Borgaraflokkurinn ), an offshoot of the Independence Party, which had received in the parliamentary elections in 1987 even 10.9 % of the vote and 7 seats, 1991 practically risen again in the Independence Party.

The Samtök to jafnrétti above félagshyggju (English Association for Equality and Social Justice, German Association for equality and social justice ), which had won in the 1987 election a seat in Althing, was not represented in Parliament.

Davíð formed after the election of a coalition with the Social Democratic Party.

160 142 Of the 182 768 eligible voters voted, representing a turnout of around 87.6 %. 2,373, or about 1.5 % of the votes were invalid.
