Ictinus

Iktinos (Greek Ἰκτῖνος ) was one of the most important architects of ancient Greece. About its origin and year of birth is not known. He was with Callicrates the architect of the Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens (built 448/47 bis 438/37 BC). How far Phidias, who according to Plutarch had the superintendence of the redesign of the Acropolis, the architecture of these buildings codetermined is unclear. According to Vitruvius Iktinos has ( together with an otherwise unknown Karpion ) published on this building is also a book. Other buildings were the Telesterion ( the main building of the cult ) in Eleusis and the Temple of Apollo at Bassae. About his date of death is not known. Iktinos was very innovative and seems to have been particularly interested in the combination of different architectural styles. Thus the Doric Parthenon frieze carries an ionic and the Temple of Bassai even combined all three former architectural styles.
