Ida Saxton McKinley

Ida Saxton McKinley ( born June 8, 1847 in Canton, Ohio, † May 26, 1907 ibid ) was the wife of the 25th U.S. President William McKinley and the First Lady of the United States from 1897 to 1901.

Ida McKinley was the daughter of James Asbury Saxton ( born May 1, 1816 in Canton, † March 16, 1887 ) and Katherine Dewalt (* August 18, 1827, † March 14, 1873 ). The two were married in 1846. Ida's paternal grandfather, John Saxton, had founded in 1815 the Ohio daily newspaper repository.

Ida was the oldest of three children. Her siblings were Mary Belinda Saxton Barber (1848-1917) and George Dewalt Saxton ( 1849-1898 ).

William McKinley and Ida Saxton married on January 25, 1871 The marriage produced two daughters were born, both of whom died in childhood. Katherine ( 1871-1875 ) and Ida ( 1873-1873 ).

After the assassination of William Ida returned to Canton. Her younger sister took care of them from now on.

Her funeral was attended among others by Theodore Roosevelt. Ida was buried alongside her husband and her two daughters in Canton 's McKinley Memorial Mausoleum.
