Idalaka ( Portuguese: Idalaca ) is a scientific term for three very similar Malayo - Polynesian dialects which are spoken in the center of East Timor:

  • Lakalei: If spoken in the area of Fahinehan ( Manufahi ). 3,250 native speakers.
  • IDATE ( Idate ): The vernacular in Laclubar ( Manatuto ) to cross the border to Manufahi. 13,512 native speakers.
  • Isni: Is the area east of Turiscai ( Manufahi ). 703 native speakers.

These dialects are closely related to Tetum and Habun and also have many similarities with Galoli. Idalaka also resembles the Kemak the extent that it (eg personal prefixes in verbs ) has some archaic features which have already disappeared in Mambai and Tokodede.

The Subdialekt Lolein in Talitu (District Aileu ) Becora Leten and Hera ( Dili District ), is a variant of Isni, which was introduced there by immigrants from Turiscai in the 19th century. In the district of Dili speak 535 people Lolein, again 564 in the adjacent Aileu and in East Timor, there are a total of 1,130 native speakers.

Idalaka is one of the 15 national languages ​​recognized by the Constitution of East Timor. A total of 18,854 East Timorese to give one of the Idalaka dialects to speak as a mother tongue.
