Idarubicin and 4- Demethoxidaunorubicin, is a substance belonging to the anthracyclines.
Use
It is used as a cytostatic agent in the context of combination chemotherapy used by acute leukemia.
Idarubicin is a DNA intercalator. The lack of methoxy group compared with daunorubicin improved the lipid solubility and thus the uptake into the cell, where it then comes to growth inhibitory interaction with topoisomerase II.
