IDEF
IDEF originally stood for ICAM Definition and is a set of modeling languages , which were published in the early 1980s. Meanwhile IDEF is usually advertised as Integrated definition. The IDEF languages were developed in the ICAM- project of the U.S. Air Force. As these languages on the one hand and on the other hand American authorities standard open (ie freely usable and neutral and therefore independent of the manufacturer ), they were assisted within a short period of CASE tools.

- IDEF0 is a method to model or system company decisions and actions, and goes back to the Structured Analysis and Design Technique.
- IDEF1 is a method for the analysis and modeling of requirements. Of particular importance is still IDEF1X, a definition for data modeling.
