Idel Torriente

Idel Torriente Leal (born 9 September 1986) is a Cuban boxer. It was in 2007 winner of the Pan American Games and 2008 winner in the Pan American Championships, each featherweight.

Career

Idel Torri duck, which was very successful even as a junior, was admitted in 2005 to the Cuban national team of boxers and assigned to the performance center of Havana. In 2005 he first came to the Cuban Championship of seniors in appearance. But he met bantamweight in the quarter- finals on Olympic gold medalist and world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, against whom he lost after a good fight on points ( 2:5 ). In 2006 he defeated at the Cuban Championship in the semifinals of the Bantam weight the great talent Rosniel Iglesias to the surprise of experts on points, but could do nothing again in the final against Guillermo Rigondeaux and defeated convincingly on points.

In 2007 he started at the Cuban Championship at featherweight and was with a points victory ( 21:18 ) over Ivan Onate first time Cuban champion. He was now also to international missions. In the 26th Independence Cup in Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican. Rep. he triumphed over Roberto Navarro, Dom. Rep., by termination in the 2nd round and also won over his compatriot Javier Fortuna by demolition in the 3rd round. However, in the final battle of this tournament he lost somewhat surprising against Davi Sousa from Brazil to points ( 18:27 ) and thus came 2nd.

At the international tournament of the Cuban boxing federation Giraldo Córdova Cardín in Santa Clara, he won for victory over Ivan Onate and thus became tournament champion at featherweight. Even with the subsequent Qualifying Tournament for the Pan American Games in Barquismeto / Venezuela won Idel Torri duck. He came here to a point victory over Miguel Marriage, Colombia ( 20:13), to a knockout victory in the third round of Franklin Manzanilla from Venezuela and to a point victory ( 17:5 ) over Abner Cotto, Puerto Rico. At the Pan American Games in 2007 itself, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Idel Torri duck triumphed over Jesus Cuellar of Argentina by termination in the 2nd round and was winner on points about Nicholas Walters from Jamaica, Orlando Rizo from Nicaragua and Abner Cotto. Here, the victory over Abner Cotto was relatively scarce in 7-5 hits. But for Idel Torriente it enough to win at these Pan American Games.

Of course, wanted Idel Torriente go at the World Championships of 2007 in Chicago at the start. The Cuban boxing federation but pulled back as soon as his message for this championship because of alleged safety problems. In reality, this was a reaction to the fact that had settled in Rio de Janeiro Guillermo Rigondeaux and Lara Erislandi of the Cuban team because they wanted to be a professional boxer in Germany. Both boxers but were conducted under dubious participation of the Brazilian authorities to Cuba. For a start in Chicago the communist system in Cuba apparently feared further escape attempts of his boxers.

Idel Torriente started in 2007 still at the National Team Championship of the Cuban power centers. He won it, starting in Havana, on Yoendris Leyra, Santiago de Cuba, by termination in the 2nd round, about Alexander Aragon Sancti Spiritus out by demolition in the first round, over Yoanny Limonta, Guantánamo, by termination in the first round, about Exer Rodriguez, Camagüey, by termination in the 4th round and Luis Franco, Pinar del Rio, on points. These five fights had to be completed within a week. This mastery shows how the Cuban boxers get their hardness, then let them be so successful at international championships.

The year 2008 began for Idel Torri duck with a defeat. In the final, the Cuban featherweight championship he lost to Ivan namely Onate on points ( 5:9 ) and thus was only runner-up. Also during the subsequent 4 Cuban Olympiad in Havana, he lost the final battle against Muscat Ospanow from Kazakhstan on points ( 4:10 ). Also in the Strandja Tournament in Plovdiv / Bulgaria he had after a victory over Maksat Ospanow in the quarterfinal defeat suffered. He lost clearly against Dimitri Bulenkow from Ukraine by points ( 12:22 ). However, the Cuban Association sat still on him and sent him to the Grand Prix tournament in Usti nad Labem ( Usti nad Labem ). There, he won over Dorjnyambuu Obgondalai from Mongolia, Paul Flemming, Australia and Chottelal Yadav from India each on points and was the tournament champion at featherweight.

Also in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament of the Americas group in Port of Spain / Trinidad to Idel Torri duck was in excellent shape. He finished there with wins over Ray Sandiford, Guyana, Angel Rodriguez, Venezuela, Robson Conceicao, Brazil and Luis Porozo, Ecuador 1st place and qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing. Even with the sparse Pan American Championships in 2008 in Cuenca / Ecuador Idel Torri duck was the winner. Since his semi-final opponents Camillo Perez from Puerto Rico could not compete because of injury, was enough for him to be a point victory over Luis Porozo ( 11:3 ) to win the title. The last race before the Olympic Games in Beijing, then suffered a surprising defeat point Idel Torriente the countries fighting against Cuba France by the French Khedafi Djelkhir in Havana.

At the Olympic boxing tournament in Beijing 2008 Idel Torri duck came to victories over Prince Dzanie from Ghana ( 11:2 ) and Enkhzorig Zorigtbaatar from Mongolia ( 10:9 ). But in the quarter-finals he lost to Sahin Imranow from Azerbaijan almost by points ( 14:16 ), which he resigned, and remained without a medal.

In the boxing world championships 2009 in Milan Torri duck was set at lightweight as favorite at number one, ( 11:7 ) and the Dutch Husnu Kocebas reached after victories over the Kazakhs Gani Zhilauov ( 8:0 ) but only the quarter-finals, in which he against the eventual world champion Domenico Valentino, Italy, was eliminated ( 5:10 ).
