Idiopathic
The term idiopathy ( from Ancient Greek ἴδιος idios, intrinsically ' and πάθος páthos, suffering ') is used in conjunction with diseases that arise without a tangible cause.
The term idiopathic is similarly used in medicine as there synonymous term essential in order to give in the naming of the disease an indication that research into the cause of the disease has so far been unsuccessful. The use of the term does not imply a rating with respect to a suspected cause or severity of the disease. In many diseases in which the cause is not clearly understood, the term is also not used. As today progresses, the aetiology continuously, the term is used less frequently.
The English physician Thomas Willis represented, for example, in 1672 the first time the theory that migraine is idiopathic.
The German pediatrician Stephan Heinrich Nolte coined in 1993 the term " idiopathic medicine" as a medicine, accepting the knowledge and acceptance of the fateful nature of health and disease in their somatic and psychosocial contingencies and contexts, and an empathic accompanying and advising medical attitude towards a dominated by action-oriented therapeutic activism medicine: area.
