Idiot#Etymology

Idiotes ( ancient Greek: ἰδιώτης ) was a non-judgmental term for a private citizen and military fields for ordinary soldiers.

As Idiotes one called in Greek antiquity persons who are neither a public office still had participated in political life. In the military field, the term was first used by the Greek historians and used for people who had a simple soldier no command authority. Later the term in Ptolemaic Egypt was officially used and immersed in team lists the army as a term for the ordinary soldier on. From the term the modern word idiot, which is different from the original concept of negative connotations later formed.
