Idmon

Idmon (Greek Ἴδμων ), also Agamestor (Greek Ἀγαμήστωρ ) called, is a seer from Greek mythology. He accompanied the Argonauts on their journey.

Idmon considered as the son of Abas, but writes Apollonius of Rhodes, he was actually the son of the god Apollo and the nymph Cyrene, which explains his ability for divination. He joins the Argonauts only hesitantly, as he foresaw an unhappy fate for themselves.

When the Argonauts residing in Mariandyne on the Black Sea, Idmon is attacked by a wild boar. Peleus and Ida attempt a rescue, but too late. Although they kill the boar, but Idmon dies in the arms of his companions to his wounds. He gets a solemn funeral, attended by Lykos, King of Mariandyner participates.

Apollo is said to have later commanded by the oracle at Delphi the Boeotians and Megarians, the city Heraclea Pontica to build around the olive tree, which was grown on Idmons grave. They followed this statement, the revered seer but under the name Agamestor.
