Idris Abdul Wakil

Idris Abdul Wakil ( born April 10, 1925 at village Makunduchi, Zanzibar, Zanzibar † 15 March 2000 ) was a Tanzanian politician.

Biography

Abdul Wakil worked as a diplomat and was 1967-1969 Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. After that, he was from 1970 to 1973 Ambassador to the Netherlands and from 1974 to 1976 in Guinea.

In 1980 he was Speaker of the House of Representatives of Zanzibar. After the election of President Ali Hassan Mwinyi of Tanzania, he was on October 24, 1985, his successor as president of Zanzibar.
