Idris II of Morocco

Idris II (* 791, † 828) was the second ruler of the Idrisids in Morocco ( 791-828 )

Idris II was born after the murder of his father Idris I ( 788-791 ). The regent for the minor led Rashid, the longtime servant of Idris I. At the age of eleven, Idris II was proclaimed imam. The influence of Idrisids in northern Morocco has been extended through campaigns.

Fez was expanded under him to the capital of the empire. In contrast to his father, Idris II was based more on Arab groups whose immigration to northern Morocco, he promoted. The Arab settlers came mainly from Andalusia next Kairouan. There, after the suburb revolt in Córdoba against al- Hakam I ( 818) thousands of rebels had been driven from the Emirate of Córdoba. These were settled in Fes, in which the city was next to Kairouan important center of Arab culture in the Maghreb.

Idris II died in 828 Walila ( Volubilis ). His grave in the Zaouia Moulay Idris II, Fes, 1437 rediscovered under Abdalhaqq, developed in the merinidischen time in the 15th century an important place of pilgrimage. His pilgrimage ( Qubba ) is considered the most sacred place of the city.
