Idris (prophet)

Idris (Arabic إدريس Idris ) is a figure from the Koran, which is mentioned briefly twice and whose identity is not fully understood. He is a prophet of God (Arabic nabīy ), truthful (Arabic Siddiq ) and patient (Arabic Sabir ) described. At the end of his life he was, according to the Koran included in the mercy of God, which is usually interpreted as the rapture.

By the majority of Muslim exegetes, he is identified with Enoch, of Western Islam researchers, however - among others by Theodor Nöldeke - mostly with a ( Arabized ) transformation of the name " Andreas". This is either the form " Andreas" meant in the ( Syrian ) Alexander Romance (the chef Alexander, who is immortal by accident ) (described especially like this in the apocryphal Acts of the Apostles "Acta Andreae " ) or the Apostle Andrew.
