Idun Reiten

Idun Reiten ( born January 1, 1942 in Klæbu, Norway) is a Norwegian mathematician who deals with algebra.

Life and work

Riding studied at the University of Oslo with a diploma in 1968 and in 1971 received his doctorate at the University of Illinois at Robert Fossum (trivial extensions and Gorenstein rings ). In 1973 she was a lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1980 she was a lecturer and in 1982 professor at the University of Trondheim, where it is since 1974.

She was, inter alia, Visiting scholar at the Universities of Bielefeld, Paderborn, Northeastern University in Boston, in Sao Paulo, Bahia Blanca in Argentina, Oxford, Chemnitz, Oslo, Liverpool, Mexico City, Stuttgart, Warwick and the Mittag-Leffler Institute.

It deals with representation theory of finite dimensional algebras ( Auslander - Reiten- theory, see Auslander - Reiten- quiver, 1975, also by Maurice Auslander ), commutative algebra and Homo Logical algebra.

In the 1970s, led by Maurice Auslander techniques of homological algebra in the study of the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras a (almost disintegrating consequences, also called the Auslander - Reiten- episodes).

In the 1980s, she turned these techniques on commutative rings.

In the 1990s she led quasi- tilted algebras A ( with Dieter Happel, Sverre SmAlO ). In the 2000s it was primarily concerned with the cluster algebras of Fomin and Andrei Zelevinsky Sergey, leading to cluster categories ( with Aslak Buan, Robert Marsh, Markus Reineke, Gordona Todorov ) and cluster tilting algebras ( with Buan, Marsh ) led.

She is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and the Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab and foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences ( 2007). She is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.

In 2009 she received the Nansen Research Prize of the Norwegian Academy of Science and in 2007 the Norwegian Möbius price. In 2005 she was awarded the Humboldt Research Award. In 2010 she gave a plenary lecture (Emmy Noether Lecture ) at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderabad (cluster categories ) and 1998 she was invited speaker at the ICM in Berlin ( Tilting theory and quasitilted algebras ).
