IEEE 802.11ac

IEEE 802.11ac is a standard (known by the more common name of Wi- Fi or WLAN) for wireless computer networks of the 802.11 family. The development was driven by the IEEE, especially in terms of high data rates in the 5 GHz band. The actual standard has been adapted several times from 2011 to 2013 and finally adopted. The final report and the official standardization should take place in early 2014. It is estimated that support the IEEE 802.11ac standard in the course of the year already over a billion devices.

The standard provides for multiple connections between devices with data rates of up to one gigabit per second and a single-channel throughput of up to 500 megabits per second. This is mainly achieved through further development of the techniques used in the IEEE 802.11n standard: other channel bandwidths (up to 160 MHz), more MIMO streams ( up to eight ) and improved signal modulation.
